Award-winning author Frances Hardinge visited Headington Rye as part of World Book Day activities.
Frances came to speak about her book ‘Unraveller’ to pupils in Years 7-9. The girls were also given the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the talk. Frances answered each one in great detail even as the questions kept coming.
Librarian Miss Anna Samuels said: “We had a wonderful time listening to the stories of her inspiration for the book and how the plot weaves itself together.”
At lunchtime there was a book signing with Frances. Anyone could come along and ask yet more questions and have a book signed. Each pupil was asked ‘would you like a picture of a goose?’ as their book was signed – the offer was taken up by all pupils!
In addition to the visit, a group of sixth formers ran a charity bake sale and World Book Day activities including making a bookmark, matching the first line to the book and book title anagrams.
Miss Samuels continued: “Overall, we had a wonderful day and I hope that the pupils will remember it fondly too.”
Pupils took part in a day of reflection during the annual Chaplaincy retreat on Friday 6th March. More...
