Art scholars spent time honing their sculpting skills with a special a one-day sculpture workshop with artist James Lake on Monday 2nd March.
Lake transforms cardboard into a sophisticated and elaborate sculpting material.
The scholars learnt about the challenges of translating 2D shapes into 3D forms, manipulating card and paper to create wonderful textured bird forms.
Director of Art, Mrs Tova Dalgleish said: “We watched James’s recent animation where his cardboard sculptures are brought to life. He let us in to some of the behind the scenes secrets.
“Every scholar from Year 7 to Year 13 produced a beautiful sculpture which are now on display in the Hive Gallery.”
Kiki, a year 12 pupil, expressed the value of this visit as “It was inspiring to test the limits of cardboard, especially because of how common it is and how so much gets discarded everyday”.
